How to Fix Facetime Not Working Issue
The “Facetime Not Working” issue is actually pretty simple to solve. There are a few settings we need to get right before being able to Facetime anyone. We have listed down everything for you, just keep reading from the first method to the last. And after implementing every method try to Facetime the person to check if the issue has been resolved. But before you try any of the methods, perform a simple restart of your device to see if it solves the “Facetime Not Working” problem.
The restart is a magical method. If it didn’t, well you got 10 more methods to try.
Method 1: Disabled Facetime
It is possible that you might have accidentally disabled Facetime so let’s make sure that isn’t the scenario and if it is then we will enable Facetime.
Step 1: Open the Settings app
Step 2: Start scrolling down until you find Facetime and click on the Facetime Settings option.
Step 3: Toggle the Facetime switch to ON position.
On macOS to enable Facetime, Open Facetime app. Click on Facetime and then Turn Facetime ON.
Method 2: Missing Data
Open up the Facetime settings just as we did in the previous method. Now under the “You can be reached at” section you should see your contact details like phone number and email address. If you don’t, that is probably the reason why people haven’t been able to Facetime you. So go ahead and enter all the details and ask your friends to try to facetime you again.
Method 3: Network Error
You need to be connected to a working WiFi or have your cellular internet connection enabled to be able to facetime someone. So before we move onto a little more complex solutions, make sure the “Facetime not working” error isn’t because of an inactive WiFi connection or turned off mobile data. Connect your iPhone to a working WiFi or turn on your mobile data and see if it resolves the issue. If not, well, read on.
Method 4: Update to the latest version of iOS
This method is sure to solve a few problems for you now and then. If you are on a previous version of iOS, consider updating to the latest available version. The software updates not only bring in new features but also fix bugs left behind from the previous updates. To check if there are any updates available:
Step 1: Open the Settings app.
Step 2: Click on the General settings option
Step 3: Press Software Update to look for new updates
Make sure to be connected to a WiFi or have your cellular data On when looking for software updates.
Method 5: The other person doesn’t have Facetime
Facetime requires both the involved parties to have the Facetime application. And Unfortunately, the facetime application is only limited to Apple products. Also, the Apple product needs to be an iPhone 4 or higher, a 4th generation iPod touch or newer, an iPad 2 or newer, or a modern Mac. If the person you are trying to Facetime doesn’t have one of these products then you won’t be able to Facetime him/her. If the person is using an Android device, there are a few other options that you could use to video call him or her. Google Duo happens to be one of our favorites.
Method 6: Set the Time and Date right
The date and time also need to be set correctly in order to Facetime someone. So go ahead and check if the Time and date on your iPhone are set correctly. To change any of the two, open the Settings app first. Then click on General and search for Date & Time. In here, make sure that the Set Automatically option is On and that the Time Zone is set to your current location.
To do so on a Mac, open up System Preferences and click on Date & Time. In there, click on the checkbox next to Set date and time automatically and choose the appropriate Apple server from the drop-down menu.
Method 7: Block List
It is a possibility that you might have blocked the person (or vice versa) you are trying to Facetime and then forgot to Unblock. To check if that’s the case, open the Settings app and open the Facetime settings. And press on the Blocked option. Here, you will see the list of all the people you have blocked from face-timing you. If you see the name of the other person on the list, simply unblock them and then try again.
Facetime is not available in all the countries around the globe. Facetime has been banned from some countries like the United Arab Emirates. You might want to give other video calling applications a try in that case.
Method 9: Facetime app is missing
It is quite possible that the Facetime application is completely missing from your device. The app could have bee turned off by using Content Restrictions. To perform a check: Open the Settings application on your iPhone and then head on to the General settings tab. Under General, tap on Restrictions. Enter your passcode. Now look for the Facetime and the Camera options. Turning off any of the two turns Facetime off. If you see a restriction turned On for either Facetime or Camera, turn it off by moving the slider to white.
Method 10: Reset Network Settings/Change DNS
Okay disclaimer: Resetting network settings will delete all saved WiFi connections, VPNs, etc. but won’t delete any data. To reset Network settings: Open the Settings app and tap on General. At the bottom of the screen, you should see Reset, tap on it. From the next screen, choose Reset Network Settings.
To change DNS follow the following path:
Settings > WiFi > YOUR WiFi router’s NAME > Configure DNS > Manual > Add Server > enter 184.108.40.206 and 220.127.116.11 > Save
We hope the above methods helped you solve the “Facetime Not Working” issue. If your device meets all the above requirements then you shouldn’t be facing any more errors.
