FaceTime on Apple devices is great no doubt. But the recent introduction of FaceTime for Apple Watch is even better. Now one can FaceTime any other person right from their wrist. Imagine Face-Timing a friend right from your wrist when you are driving! Literally a lifesaver. Although you won’t be able to make FaceTime video calls from the Apple Watch any time soon. You still can use the FaceTime audio functionality. And let’s hope Apple brings on the Video Call option too.
How to Use Facetime on your Apple Watch
Making a FaceTime call from the Apple Watch is very easy and simple. Although if you are new to the Apple Watch scene and don’t exactly know your way around it, then it can be a bit stressful. There are a total of three ways in which you can Facetime someone from the Apple Watch. The first one is using Siri, second is through the Phone app and last but not least by using the messages app. Find the complete step by step guide on all three below.
Method 1: Asking Siri to FaceTime for us
Why do it yourself when you have a smart assistant right on your wrist? Siri, along with all the other things she is able to do can also help you and me make a Facetime call from our Apple Smartwatch to our friends and family. And making Siri Facetime someone for us is quite simple and here is how to do so in three easy steps:
Step 1: First we will need to activate Siri. And there are multiple (three to be exact) ways to do it. The easiest one is to simply say “Hey Siri” and Siri will be right at our command. Another method is to press and hold the Digital Crown on the side of our Apple Watch. And lastly, if you are on the Siri Watch Face, Tap on the Siri widget to activate Siri.
Step 2: Once Siri is activated we just need to say FaceTime followed by the person’s name you want to Facetime. Say “FaceTime [contact’s name]“. Of course, the name and contact details of the person must be saved on your device.
Step 3: Voila!! Siri will Facetime the person for you. Talk to them for as long as you want and once there is nothing more to talk about press the red icon to end the call.
Method 2: Using the Phone App on the Watch
This is probably the most convenient method one can use to FaceTime another person. It includes the age-old method of searching up the name of the person from the ever-growing contact lists and then tapping on the FaceTime Audio option. Although some people seem to have a difficult time with this as they are either new to the Apple Watch or just not that tech-savvy. So, read on to know how to place a FaceTime call to someone using the Phone App on your Apple Smartwatch:
Step 1: Press or push the Digital Crown on the side of the Apple Watch to bring up icons of all available applications.
Step 2: Tap on the Phone icon (green colored with a white phone image in the center) and then on your Contacts List. To scroll through the contacts list, use the digital crown until you find the person you want to FaceTime.
Step 3: Tap on the Contact’s name once found. Then the Phone icon.
Step 4: On the following screen, now tap on FaceTime Audio to place the call.
Method 3: Through the Messages app on the Apple Watch
I swear the number of different ways you can do the same thing on a piece of tech is astonishing. Apart, from commanding Siri to make FaceTime calls for us or doing it manually through the Phone app, there is another method that lets us perform a FaceTime call. This one takes us through the in-built messaging app. We will simply look for an active messaging thread between you and the person you want to FaceTime. And then just a few taps here and there to make the call. To do so follow the steps below:
Step 1: Press the Digital Crown on the side of the Watch to bring all the icons on the screen.
Step 2: Tap on the Message application icon (Green colored with a white message icon). Now, look for an active message thread with the person who you want to FaceTime.
Step 3: Tap on the thread and then perform a Force Touch on the Watch Display.
Step 4: Tap on the Details option. Doing so will get us three more options. One to Phone, another to message and the last to mail. Tap on the Phone icon to perform a FaceTime.
Step 5: Select FaceTime Audio from the next screen and get to talking.
Method 4: Alternative To FaceTime – The Walkie Talkie feature
I will admit. The Walkie Talkie feature is a lot more fun to use than the traditional FaceTime. Apple introduced the Walkie Talkie feature in watchOS 5, and many seem to be hooked to the new feature. It’s perhaps a good alternative if you don’t want to make a normal call but still need to make contact or deliver a message. For this to work, you and the person you want to try this with, need to be on watchOS 5 and have the Walkie Talkie feature activated.
Step 1: Press the Digital Crown and then on the Walkie Talkie application icon (Yellow colored with a walkie talkie in the center)
Step 2: Once you are inside the application, tap on the “+” icon button and choose the person you want to try the walkie talkie feature with.
Step 3: By tapping on the contact, you just sent them an invitation. You will have to wait for them to accept the invitation. Till then they will be labeled as Invited.
Step 4: Once they accept your invitation, their contact card will turn yellow. This means that you both are connected now.
Step 5: Press on the Talk button to talk with the person.
So up there were the three ways you could Facetime someone using the Apple watch on your wrist. Plus a fun little alternative in the Walkie Talkie feature. We hope your life is a little more convenient now that you don’t have to take your iPhone out every time you want to facetime someone. That’s it for this article.
